Do you have problems going to sleep at night? You're not the only one. Lots of people experience sleep problems at night. It's like you're in bed two hours and you still can't seem to drop off to sleep. You're stuck tossing and turning, thinking about the stuff you need to do the next day, and sleep seems oh so far away. You gave counting sheep a try but it didn't work. Why is it that you just keep having troubles going to sleep at night?

Here are a few tips that can help us all have a better time catching some Zs. Before turning to drugs or other drastic methods to help with problems going to sleep at night, try some of the methods listed below.

* Avoid eating large amounts of food before going to bed at night. This can cause indigestion, leading to trouble sleeping.

*If you have problems going to sleep quickly and easily, and your diet allows, eat one to one-and-a-half ounces of a carbohydrate 30 minutes before bedtime.

* A comfortable bed means better sleep. Pay attention to how your mattress and pillows feel at night and arrange them to suit your sleeping habits. Make sure that your bed isn't too firm or too lumpy. If you can't arrange your bedding, consider purchasing new bedding that will be appropriate.

* Keep a journal of your thoughts. One big reason that a lot of us are kept up at night is because of racing thoughts. One way you might be able to deal with this problem is by writing down your thoughts, concerns, and worries. You can even look for solutions before you go to sleep. By getting these thoughts out of your head, there's a better chance you'll have a good night's sleep.

* Prepare for bed. Many people who have problems going to sleep at night aren't prepared. A good schedule for waking up and going to bed is important to addressing this. If you aren't ready, you'll find yourself staying up later than you should.

* Make sure that your sleep environment is inviting. If you're uncomfortable where you're going to sleep at night, you'll have more trouble sleeping. One thing that can happen is treating the bedroom as an area where you do nothing but sleep. Avoid watching television, working on the computer, or paying bills in your bedroom if you want to avoid problems going to sleep at night.

You should be able to improve your sleep just by making a few adjustments to your lifestyle and habits. You won't necessarily have to make serious changes. It's easy to get a good night's sleep if you're comfortable, prepared, and have freed your mind of distracting thoughts. Soon, problems going to sleep at night can be long forgotten, and you can enjoy peaceful nights.
