Nursing Bras Tips

A baby's cries for milk can come at any time and breastfeeding clothes can make the whole experience easier. One of the most necessary pieces of breastfeeding clothes that a nursing mother requires is a good quality nursing bra.

Make certain that the nursing bra fits correctly. Well-fitted nursing bras should sit flat on your breastbone and provide full breast coverage. Most lactation consultants can help fit you for a correctly sized nursing bra. Purchase nursing bras close to your due date, or even after your baby arrives. Your bust line will grow bigger toward the end of your pregnancy, and again when your milk comes in.

Bras that are too tight may block the flow of milk and put you at risk for plugged ducts or infection that can eventually lead to mastitis. There is no one best kind of nursing bra, as every woman's body is different and has different comfort preferences.

Many women prefer the support of an under wire bra, and can comfortably wear one. But if possible, avoid nursing bras with under wires and those tight bras. This type of nursing bra can constrict the breasts in all the wrong places and lead to plugged ducts or mastitis.

There are some nursing bras that are equipped with flaps that simply open to reveal the breast when it's time to breastfeed. The flaps on nursing bras differ; some hook or fasten at the top while others close in the middle of the chest. If you choose this style, make sure the flap opens easily and exposes enough of the breast to make it simple for the baby to feed.

There are nursing bras without flaps and under wires that can easily be pulled to one side with one hand which are usually made of softer fabrics. While this type is often cheaper and very comfortable, be sure that it also offers you enough support.

Make sure that you have a good number of nursing bras so that you can wash them regularly; this will help protect you and your baby from the possibility of infection. Try to purchase a nursing bra where the cup is lined with cotton, although many synthetic materials nowadays do let your skin breath. Also make sure your bra has straps that keep the breasts elevated without cutting into your shoulder.

These days, there are now many pretty, stylish and sexy nursing bras on the market, although they don't usually come cheap. The best nursing bras are not the most expensive ones or the ones with the designer label but those that fit you perfectly, give you the support you need, function well, and are pleasing to wear.
